Joby & Virgin: UK Air Taxi Partnership Takes Flight

Joby Aviation and Virgin Atlantic are partnering to introduce air taxi services in the UK. The collaboration focuses on integrating Joby’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft into Virgin Atlantic’s transportation network. The goal is to provide seamless, eco-friendly travel to and from major airports, initially targeting London Heathrow and Gatwick.

Both companies will collaborate to develop the necessary infrastructure, operational strategies, and user experiences for the innovative air taxi service. Joby’s eVTOL aircraft, designed for quiet and efficient urban air mobility, accommodates four passengers and a pilot, reaching speeds up to 200 mph. Virgin Atlantic plans to incorporate this service into its customer travel options, offering a premium alternative to ground transportation, reducing travel duration.

JoeBen Bevirt, CEO of Joby Aviation, expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with Virgin Atlantic, citing their shared commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. He believes that together, they can transform air travel in the UK, delivering a faster, cleaner, and more convenient mode of transportation.

Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, emphasized their dedication to sustainable innovation, recognizing the potential of eVTOL technology to revolutionize air travel. He believes that the alliance with Joby will provide customers with a distinctive and seamless travel experience, facilitating quicker and more sustainable journeys to their destinations.

Both companies will collaborate closely with regulatory bodies to acquire the necessary certifications and approvals for the air taxi operation. Commercial launch in the UK is projected within the coming years.
